AMH can range from 0.02 or less to 45 or more. Reading AMH has always been a difficult task, and sometimes it is misinterpreted or misdiagnosed.
It is always best to go for the blood test to check your AMH level anytime during your menstrual cycle.
Mostly, we check hormones via blood tests during periods only, as the level fluctuates throughout the month. However, AMH levels don’t fluctuate much like other fertility hormones. Still, it is best to do an AMH level blood test during the menstrual cycle.
If periods are absent or delayed, opt to do the AMH level test anytime.
Now, let’s spend a few minutes understanding AMH:
What is AMH?: The anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) reflects ovarian reserve and fertility potential.
Low AMH Levels:
Indicate diminished ovarian reserve (DOR).
May lead to challenges in natural conception and fertility treatments.
High AMH Levels:
Associated with PCOS.
Can increase the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).
Now, what is considered low AMH level & high AMH level?
In Reproductive age, typically 1.0 ng/ml - 4.0 ng/ml is considered normal.
Lower than 1.0 ng/ml is considered low.
Higher than 5.0 ng/ml is considered high.
Food is the primary treatment option to improve AMH level!
Protein: Include poultry, fish, and legumes.
Healthy Fats: Ghee, omega-3s from flaxseeds and seafood. We can have all seeds like sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and white sesame seeds.
Antioxidants: The more leafy greens, and colorful veggies you eat, the better it is.
Vitamin D: Take supplement or fortified dairy and fatty fish.
Balanced Diet: Using food as medicine is crucial for AMH improvement. Better to include these in regular diet.
Cruciferous veggies, omega-3s, and colorful fruits.
Turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon.
Hydration: Hydration is not just water. Increase intake of coconut water, lemon water, buttermilk, soups and herbal teas.
Lifestyle Tips:
Prioritise getting good sleep. Wake up early and maintain a consistent sleep schedule for better rest.
Lymphatic drainage is a helpful technique for detoxification. You can practice this by dry body brushing.
Engage in yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) to promote overall well-being.
Overthinking is one thing to avoid if your AMH level is high or low. As overthinking, which is a precursor of stress, disturbs AMH levels even more.
While medications may not directly improve AMH levels, it’s essential to focus on your diet and lifestyle.
Tailoring these factors to your body’s needs can positively impact both low and high AMH levels.
